The Coolest Weekend Bag You’ve Ever Seen…..

November 20, 2014 By Bob McClellan

M. S. McClellan is constantly on the look out for the new and unique.  Those items that you won’t find anywhere else.  With these new weekender bags from Hook & Albert we think you’ll agree that we struck gold.  It’s a garment bag – duffle bag all in one.  No more juggling two pieces of travel luggage at the airport.  Or worse yet trying to pack your suits and dress shirts into a rolling case only to get to your destination to find your clothes are wrinkled.  We think the Hook & Albert Weekender solves both problems.  Compact enough to treat as a carry on.  Big enough to get everything you need for a weekend out of town.
The Weekender starts as a garment bag laid flat so you can get a suit and some dress shirts laid out (or a sport coat and two pair of trousers and dress shirts) and then zip up the case to create the duffle.  Since there is no folding involved, your dress clothing remains fresh requiring only a quick shake out when you arrive.  The inside walls on the ends serve as a shoe caddy for extra reinforcement and stability.  Zip up the sides and use the inside as the duffle bag.  It’s roomy enough to hold extra jeans, shirts, sweaters, underwear, socks and dopp kit.  (You’ll see how much it holds below.)  Zip up the top securely and you’re off and running.
What and who is this bag perfect for?  Weddings, guy trips, the man who takes 2-3 day business trips, a weekend getaway (obviously) and a host of other short term travel adventures.  We’re pretty sure that a Hook & Albert Weekender will become your go-to for quick trips. If you’re really stumped for a unique holiday gift….here you go.  We have two models available – brown leather (featured here) and an olive waxed canvas.

Argyles and Fair Isle! What’s Not To Love?

November 6, 2014 By Bob McClellan

If you’ve been with M. S. McClellan for any amount of time then you remember when argyle and fair isle sweaters with your favorite jeans or khakis was the order of the day.  It not only looked right, but it felt right. It made fall feel more like, well… fall. Brilliant autumnal colors are the hallmark of argyle and and fair isle sweaters that go beautifully with cords, oxford cloth button down and a navy blazer and many other combinations.
We owe a debt of thanks to the Duke of Windsor for the popularity and endurance of these classic patterns.  For it was he that made both patterns fashionable on the golf course and for casual dress – and whatever the Duke wore conferred instant validity for the masses. Both patterns are synonymous with the word “preppy”, and why not?  Take a look at old Ivy League photos and you’ll see an argyle or fair isle sweater on someone.  Look at any old Ralph Lauren ad campaigns from the 70’s and 80’s and you’ll see an argyle or fair isle peeking out.  There’s a reason these patterns were once so ubiquitous – it’s because the argyle and fair isle work with so much and add a dash of color besides.
M. S. McClellan is proud to introduce a new offering from Harley of Scotland.  Simply beautiful argyles and fair isles that are sure to be a favorite in your wardrobe.  The colors scream fall and you’re bound to be noticed (for the right reasons) with these luxurious sweaters.  As we said above, they look right, they feel right and they make fall feel a little better.

The Luxury That Is Barbera

October 30, 2014 By Bob McClellan

After taking a break for a few years, we’re pleased to announce that we’re back in the fold with Luciano Barbera.  For those not in the know, Luciano Barbera is simply some of the most luxurious goods to be had. Beautiful fabrics drenched in the colors of the season make for pieces that will stand the test of time and quickly become favorites. This season, we’ve brought in an exclusive assortment of outerwear and sweaters.  We hope you’ll drop in and check out these treasures for yourself.
For starters, we have this lightweight, but warm, quilted soft coat.  Great by the fire and perfectly acceptable for a night out on the town.

This vest from Barbera is the absolute bomb! So many times in East Tennessee all that is required is a vest and sweater combo to keep the chill off. This vest has a little more to it than the old puffer vest.

And for a little sprezzatura, which Luciano Barbera has in spades, flip the inside of the vest pocket out for a ready made pocket square!

The Finest Ties in the World

October 23, 2014 By Bob McClellan

Once upon a time, the finest ties were made in the Seven Fold tradition. It’s a process where the tie is entirely constructed from folded silk with no linings. It’s lavish, time consuming and yes, expensive. The good people at Robert Talbott resurrected the tradition in 1986 and they are the only American tie maker that creates these works of art. We carry the Robert Talbott Seven Fold tie in our store and bring in new styles seasonally, and we figured you might want to know a little more about these beautiful works of art.
Some things worth knowing…
*Seven fold ties are made entirely by hand and use a full yard of silk that is folded seven times. It’s a labor intensive process as the silk is cut and sewn by hand.
*Due to the hand making process, seven fold ties are a limited production of 40 ties for each pattern and then discontinued.
* The cost can be an eye opener, but the seven fold tie is the ultimate neckwear. If you want the most beautiful neckwear made from the best fabrics then the seven fold tie is for you. It’s the most luxurious piece of neckwear in the world.
Check out the video from Robert Talbott to learn more about the seven fold tie. Come visit us to see them for yourself.
