Fall 2026 marks an important milestone for the legacy of M.S. McClellan & Co.
It’s our 60th anniversary!
Looking back, the business started somewhat by happenstance. After growing up in Knoxville, graduating from the University of Tennessee, and serving in the military, Matthew McClellan went to work in retail at Schriver’s in downtown Knoxville learning the business of men’s clothing. When presented with the opportunity to lease space on Cumberland Avenue next to UT’s campus, Matthew, in 1966, at 27 years old opened his first haberdashery.
Of course, the business has evolved through the decades. Store locations have changed, the merchandise mix has increased ten-fold, a professional tailor shop was made permanent, and an upscale ladies area was added. Through many changes, the store has stayed true to its brand of offering fine, tailored clothing and updated classics for men and women. We strive to take care of each customer with respect to their needs, making sure they are pleased with the fit and performance of their purchases.
Since 1987, M. S. McClellan & Co. has been located in Knoxville’s Bearden area at 5614 Kingston Pike, where you’ll likely find Matthew on any given work day. We celebrate the McClellan family for sixty successful years and salute our community of customers near and far for your loyal and enduring patronage.
