New Face Masks for Second Harvest

May 21, 2020 By Bob McClellan

In an effort to keep our tailor shop busy and employed, we’ve been making face masks!

It started as a small project by our tailor, Veronica, for Matthew McClellan, who has been quarantined at home for the past few weeks, and it got us thinking we might be able to help others.

Veronica (along with Patrick) went to the cutting table to create prototypes and fine-tune the details. And voila! We’ve got ourselves some awesome face masks. Because no one should beat back a pandemic without a little style.

These face masks are 100% cotton and lined in shirt fabric for comfort. They are washable and reusable. There’s even a sleeve where you can slip in medical-grade paper filters if you want to.

We have face mask fabrics for men, women, and the little ones!”

We hope that you are staying safe and healthy out there. Soon enough, we think, we’ll be getting back to normal with our masks on.

Speaking of, as you will see below we have some new fabrics for you!  We’ve found some colorful options along with everyone’s favorite, Sugar Skulls!  We’re also relieved that we have found a reliable fabric house that can replenish our supplies while we are still in the mask business.

As for some bad news, we are out of Wonder Woman, Coco, Marvel Comics, English Telephone Booths and the early florals. We’ve researched high and low and apparently everyone else had the same idea we did.

As for the orange and white checkerboard fabric. It’s coming. We swear. 5 yards of it. We ordered from a fabric house called Spoonflower and they are not very good in the customer service department. But it is coming. If you absolutely have to have some orange … check out the orange and white bandana fabric that is in-house. But fair warning … it is in very limited supply.

The masks cost $20 and 60% of the proceeds are going to Second Harvest food bank. To date, thanks to you, we have given Second Harvest over $13,000!

Thank you for your support.

A Letter From Bob McClellan

March 18, 2020 By Bob McClellan

Dear Friends,

Like many concerned businesses, we are following the daily status of what is happening with the emergence of the COVID-19 virus here in the United States. I want to assure you that we take this matter seriously for your health and safety, as well as our own. It is our top concern as we navigate some uncharted waters for the next few weeks.

Our intent is to carry on with business as usual to the extent that we can safely. We will adjust as the circumstances warrant as we will always consider what is best for our people and for you.

Amidst the uncertainly, we have a responsibility to control what we can control. M. S. McClellan is taking extra steps to maintain a safe environment for our team and our clients. We are making concerted efforts to sanitize contact areas around the store as well as having bottles of hand sanitizer conveniently placed for your use.

Our schedule of events for Spring 2020 is in flux. New positions from the CDC against gatherings of 50 or more people is a serious consideration for the coming weeks. Currently, we are postponing our Peter Millar event on March 28th to sometime in May. And we may have further changes to our event schedule. Should there be any developments with our activities, we will let you know in plenty of time through email and social media.

For added convenience and safety, I would like to remind you that home and office delivery (via mail or in-person) is always an option with our company as well as curbside pick up service. We are happy to accommodate your needs via text, email, or phone. And as always, you may request a private appointment with your chosen associate after hours with no crowds.

Thank you for continuing to be a loyal M. S. McClellan client during a tough time. I thank you for your trust, and I feel confident that this, too, will pass. If we do not see you soon, we look forward to when we do.

Warm Regards,

Bob McClellan

Spring is about to go full bloom and you don’t want to miss it!

March 13, 2020 By Bob McClellan

One of the reasons we love this season so much is the colors and the textures.  It signals warmer and longer days are upon us along with a more casual attitude.  But as this outfit from Julian shows, casual doesn’t mean sloppy.  For your upcoming gatherings this Spring let a soft coat and a pocket square lead the way!

Shinola – A Great American Story

December 4, 2017 By Bob McClellan

“Why not accept that manufacturing is gone from America? Why not let the rust and the weeds finish what they started?”

Shinola is a great American story, or more specifically a story symbolic of Detroit, Michigan’s renaissance.  Taking the name that formerly belonged to a noted American shoe polish, Shinola represent a bold move to reclaim the making of things that are made well.  That’s the American spirit, of course, but it’s also bringing jobs back to Detroit.

Shinola embraces a spirit that refuses to believe that manufacturing has left America.  As manufacturing goes, our worst didn’t come when we were at our best.  It came when we thought good was good enough.  These watches from Shinola are beautiful works of art.  And they seek to define, once again, American luxury through American quality.

Situated in a 30,000 square foot facility in downtown Detroit, Shinola has created a state of the art watch factory.  It’s a place where meticulous hand assembly is merged with the latest technology.  Routinely, watchmakers from Switzerland are flown in to train employees on the finer details of watch assembly.  Employing over 400 people, most of whom are native Detroiters, Shinola has invested heavily in their facilities and their people to create watches that are beautiful and built to last.

Whether it’s the Runwell, The Runwell Chronograph, the Canfield or even the new Guardian there’s an artistry that’s evident the minute you first hold a watch from Shinola.  Immediately, you will notice the attention to detail on the face, the dials and even the crown. A wide variety of leathers are used for the straps and they perfectly compliment the hardware.  There’s no denying that Shinola watches have a one of a kind appeal for the owner.

M. S. McClellan introduced Shinola early in November of 2017.  We’re very proud of our introductory collection, and we think you will be equally impressed.  They make a wonderful purchase for yourself, of course, but they make an even better holiday gift for someone special.
